Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
January in Cracow is cold in a way that settles into your bones. Highs reach only 1°C (34°F) and nights drop to around -4°C (23°F), with occasional snow giving the Old Town a dramatically different character than the rest of the year. Rainfall is modest at 38mm, and crowds are at their lowest, making this one of the quieter months to move through the city's major sites.
February is marginally milder, with highs nudging to 3°C (38°F) and lows of -3°C (25°F). It tends to be slightly drier than January at 33mm, and the city takes on an almost subdued quality this time of year, a good time for the indoor pleasures of Cracow's cafes, cellar bars, and museums.
March is the beginning of a long, unsteady transition. Highs climb to 8°C (47°F) while nights still hover right at freezing, around 0°C (32°F). Rain stays modest at 38mm, and you'll get occasional sunshine that feels warm until the wind picks up and reminds you it's still early spring.
April brings the city back to life. Highs reach 15°C (59°F) and lows settle at 3°C (38°F), and rainfall increases slightly to 46mm as spring showers become more frequent. The Planty gardens start greening and the outdoor terraces of Old Town restaurants begin filling, tentatively at first, then with conviction by the end of the month.
May is arguably one of the best months in Cracow for most travelers. Highs of 19°C (67°F) and lows of 8°C (47°F) make for comfortable days and evenings, though rainfall jumps noticeably to 79mm, expect some afternoon rain but rarely an all-day grey wash. The city is busy but hasn't hit peak summer density.
June is when summer properly arrives. Highs reach 23°C (73°F) and lows of 12°C (53°F) mean evenings stay pleasantly warm. At 76mm, June is nearly as wet as May, with afternoon thunderstorms being the main culprit, though they typically clear quickly. The Main Market Square fills with visitors and outdoor events become part of daily life.
July is the warmest and rainiest month. Highs hit 25°C (77°F) and lows of 13°C (56°F), comfortable rather than oppressive, though 99mm of rainfall means a compact umbrella is essentially required kit. The long days compensate well: it stays light well past 9pm, and the city makes full use of every hour.
August shares July's warmth, with highs of 25°C (77°F) and lows of 13°C (56°F), but rainfall eases to 74mm and storms tend to be shorter. It's still firmly peak season in Cracow, and the Old Town can feel crowded around the major sites, though the side streets of Kazimierz offer considerably more breathing room.
September is a quietly excellent month to visit. Highs of 19°C (67°F) and lows of 9°C (48°F) bring a pleasant crispness, rainfall settles to 66mm, and the summer crowds begin to thin. The city shifts into its autumn rhythm and there's a sense that Cracow is returning to something more like itself.
October is fully autumnal, with highs of 14°C (57°F) and lows around 4°C (40°F). Rainfall of 51mm is moderate, and the parks and the slopes below Wawel Castle turn amber and gold. It's good walking weather if you're dressed for it, and crowds have dropped significantly from summer.
November can feel bleak. Highs only reach 7°C (45°F). Lows touch 0°C (32°F). Grey skies dominate. Rain totals 41mm. That said, Cracow's indoor life shines. Cafes glow with warmth. Jazz bars pulse in Kazimierz basements. Museums stay uncrowded. Dress warm. Worth it.
December starts cold. It gets colder. Highs hit 2°C (36°F). Lows drop to -3°C (25°F). Rainfall measures 33mm, the year's lowest. Snow becomes likely. Christmas market fills Main Market Square. Early December bustles despite the chill.
